Moving On

After leaving Armidale, we headed towards Inverell as there were not big hills were Boris would have trouble climbing. We were heading towards Queensland as it is suppose to be warmer. We first stopped at a place just over the border called Texas which is another free camp spot, where in the main street( about 3min drive) they have very clean toilets and a hot shower and they are also free, so every second day we would head in there for a long hot shower. Texas was a great small little town were you could stay for 2 weeks plus it was warmer so we could put our thermals away.  Back in the day it was were tabacco was grown and there are still tabacco drying house still there but not in use.

We stayed there for about a week and a half as we met up with my mum and dad as they were heading home from their travels.  Ray decided that visiting tips were the go as you could take what you wanted and not pay for it so now we take photos of every tip shop we visit that is for free. I must say there has been some good finds. So now when we go to a town we go to their tip and their op shop as we never now what we will find. We did do a trip to Stanthorpe and Goondawindi  and look around. Our girl got to see how cotton was grow and picked, so another lesson for here.

Armidale

On our travels we went through Port macquaire as the little one had to do here Naplan, so once that was done, we headed towards Coffs Harbour as we don't do caravan parks we ended up at a little place outside Beligen which was called Roses Creek, we had to sit and wait for the school work to arrive( which it didn't) so we decided to head towards Armidale as we were told that there was a great free camping spot outside Armidale called Dumaresq dam. Once we found it was a lovely place and there was no time limit which was real good. We met a lot of lovely people there we met and have kept in contact with.    While their the school laptop died(again) and had to be sent of from there to Melbourne for repair, so we waited. But in that time of waiting Armidale got real cold, down to -7 and we didn't have a heater so wearing all the clothes from our wardrode to keep warm at night was the go. We did invest in some thermals which helped but moving on in what had to do. So with the laptop delayed and with the help of Harvey Norman, Armidale we moved on. Armidale was a lovely place but not in winter when you have no heater.

On a good note our girl got to feed and pat a possum and that was new to her.

Our adventures continue.

Our Introduction

Hi There
Our Name is Ray and Wendy plus a little one
Here is our blogg on the adventures we are having in our old 79 model mercedes bus that has been converted to a Motorhome which we have christened BORIS...everything we have done has been setup with a very small budget in mind and to be totally self sufficient and no wine coolers or leather upholstery was used in its creation
We come from the Mid North Coast of NSW where the work dried up and decided to Hit the road full time starting from May heading north to beat the NSW winter
When we decided to do this we agreed it was too cost prohibitive to stay at caravan parks at approx $30 a night ...what would be the point and we might as well have stayed home if we couldnt live without the mod cons....so we only do the free camping thing anywhere and everywhere we can as we want to see the real australia and not the fabricated parks
Along the way we have met alot of great people and had alot to learn about the lifestyle and how slow our bus actually was when fully loaded (76kph flat out)and only a few small design flaws that were easily overcome....
we have been educating the little one who is 8 via the distance education Ontrack system which seems to be going well and are hopefully going to meet up with more people doing the same

If you see us dont hessitate to say Hi
